Portogruaro Map Poster & Print
Portogruaro lies in the eastern Veneto, on the flat plain between the Tagliamento and the Venetian lagoon. The town grew as a river port on the Lemene, and from above its historic centre is a long, narrow shape that follows the water. An arcaded main street runs parallel to the river, and short lanes connect the two.
The town's best-known image is the pair of watermills on the Lemene with a small shrine between them, now the symbol of Portogruaro. Nearby, the cathedral's bell tower leans visibly off vertical. Just to the south is Concordia Sagittaria, the site of the Roman city of Iulia Concordia, whose bishops later moved their residence to Portogruaro.
A Portogruaro map poster traces the Lemene through the town, the old gates at either end of the historic centre and newer districts spreading across the plain. The railway and the A4 motorway pass nearby. Drainage channels and field boundaries give the surroundings the fine, regular texture of the reclaimed lowlands of eastern Veneto.
