Roshanpura is part of the Najafgarh area in South West Delhi, on the outer edge of the capital close to the Haryana border. On a map it appears as a close weave of narrow lanes and small plots, the typical fabric of Delhi's urban villages, with main roads running through toward central Delhi and surrounding towns. Open fields and newer colonies lie not far beyond.
The area grew from older village settlements that were gradually absorbed as Delhi expanded outward. Najafgarh has long served as a market centre for the rural south-west of the territory, and the Najafgarh drain, one of the major waterways of the region, runs through this part of Delhi on its way toward the Yamuna.
