Şafwá lies in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, a short distance inland from the Gulf coast and north of Qatif. It belongs to the historic Qatif oasis, where springs and groundwater supported extensive date palm cultivation for centuries. The town grew among these gardens, and on the map the palm plots still sit close to its residential streets.
The older quarters around the centre have a compact, irregular street pattern. Newer districts on the outskirts follow the broad, regular grid seen across the Eastern Province.
