Castle hill
The reconstructed Shiroishi Castle stands on a rise near the centre. The old castle-town streets gather around it and shape the densest part of the map.

Shiroishi Map Poster & Print
Shiroishi is in the south of Miyagi Prefecture, in a basin between the Ōu Mountains and the Pacific coastal plain. It grew up as a castle town under the Katakura family, retainers of the Date clan of Sendai. Shiroishi Castle was rebuilt in wood in the 1990s, and the town is also known for umen, short, thin wheat noodles that are a local speciality.
The map shows a compact centre around the castle hill, with streets arranged in the irregular blocks typical of old Japanese castle towns. The Shiroishi River runs through the area. Railway lines, including the Tōhoku Shinkansen, cross the landscape in long curves. Beyond the town, fields give way to wooded slopes that rise towards the Zaō range in the west.
A Shiroishi map poster shows a small, historic town in its landscape. The castle area, the river and the rail lines give the composition a clear structure, and the hills around the edges add a quiet frame. In black and white, it becomes a calm image of provincial Tōhoku, orderly and close to the mountains.

Shiroishi River
The river flows through the town and its surroundings. Its winding course contrasts clearly with the streets and the straight lines of the fields.
Rail corridors
Conventional and Shinkansen lines cross the area in long, smooth curves, linking Shiroishi with Sendai and Tokyo and adding strong lines to the composition.
