Tājūrā’ lies on the Libyan coast a short distance east of Tripoli, within the capital's wider district. The sea organises its map. A long, fairly straight shoreline runs along the north, a coastal road runs parallel to it, and a looser web of streets reaches inland into land long used for farms, orchards and palm groves.
The town has a history of its own, separate from the capital next door. Its best-known monument is the Murad Agha Mosque, built in the sixteenth century during the early Ottoman period and noted for its many columns.
