Tepa lies in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, north-west of Kumasi. It is the capital of the Ahafo Ano North district and serves as a market town for the surrounding farming communities. From above, Tepa appears as a compact cluster of streets where several roads meet, surrounded by forest and farmland.
The area is part of Ghana's forest belt, and cocoa farming is important to the local economy. The street pattern is informal, with roads branching and curving as the town has grown, and newer neighbourhoods extending along the main routes out of the centre.
