Ubaíra lies in the Vale do Jiquiriçá, in the interior of Bahia between the Atlantic coast and the drier uplands further west. The town occupies low ground in a hilly landscape. On a map its streets follow the terrain rather than a strict grid, stretching along the lower land and thinning out as the slopes rise on either side.
The Jiquiriçá valley is a green farming region, where crops such as bananas, cassava and cocoa grow on the hillsides, and small towns sit along the river and the roads that follow it.
