Winnenden sits in the Rems-Murr district northeast of Stuttgart, where the Zipfelbach runs through a shallow valley between vineyard slopes and farmland. From above, the historic core is a tight knot of short, bending lanes, with the former castle of Winnental set a little apart from it. Around the core, twentieth-century housing and commercial streets spread in looser loops, and the railway line cuts a clean diagonal through the town.
The town is widely known as the home of Kärcher, the cleaning-equipment maker whose headquarters and industrial halls take up large rectilinear blocks on the map.
