Woodburn sits in the flat heart of the Willamette Valley, roughly midway between Portland and Salem. Seen from above, the town is a compact street grid near the railroad, with newer subdivisions curving outward. Interstate 5 passes along its eastern side. Around it all lies a patchwork of rectangular fields, the farmland the valley is known for.
The city has an unusually diverse population for a place its size.
