Valley floor town
The streets fill the flat ground at the bottom of the valley, so the whole town forms one long, dense shape between the slopes.

Bonan Map Poster & Print
Bonan sits in the mountains of western Yunnan, where level ground is scarce. On a map the town fills a valley floor, its streets pressed into a long, narrow band. Around it the contour-heavy terrain of the Hengduan ranges takes over the rest of the sheet, with long ridges and deep folds running out past the edges.
The name recalls the old Bonan road, part of the historic southwestern trade route that once linked the Yunnan plateau with lands further west. Today the town is shaped more by its valley than by that history. A main road follows the low ground, and the side streets climb only as far as the slopes allow before farmland and forest take over.
A Bonan map poster shows how a mountain town keeps to its valley. The built-up area forms a dense core in the middle of the sheet, and the roads leaving town become thin lines winding along the hillsides. That contrast between a crowded centre and open, empty country around it is what gives the print its structure.

Winding approach roads
The roads out of town twist along the mountainsides, and on paper their fine curved lines stand out against the straighter grid of the centre.
Mountain surroundings
Beyond the last streets the map is mostly open terrain, which leaves plenty of calm white space around the town.

Tanba sa Bonan
Mapa ida ho signifikadu
People hang Bonan on the wall because they are from this part of Yunnan, or because they travelled the mountain roads of the southwest and want something quieter than a photograph to remember it by. The dense valley core looks good at any size, from A3 up to 24×36″.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or a year. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The HD files cost $9, and you can also order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
