Collegno lies just west of Turin in Piedmont, along the Dora Riparia river on the route toward the Susa Valley and the Alps. Once a separate farming village, it is now closely joined to the city. The western end of Turin's metro line 1 is in Collegno, making it one of the best-connected places in the metropolitan area.
The map shows a continuous urban fabric merging with Turin to the east, broken by the green corridor of the Dora and several large parks. The historic centre is small. The walled grounds of the Certosa form a large, regular block among the streets. The Certosa was a Carthusian monastery that later became a psychiatric hospital.
