The central grid
Around the main plaza the streets follow a regular colonial layout of square blocks, the clearest and most orderly part of the map.

Comitán Map Poster & Print
Comitán sits on a high plateau in eastern Chiapas, and its streets show a colonial grid adjusted to rolling ground. Around the central square the blocks are regular, but toward the edges they tilt and curve with the hills. The Pan-American Highway passes along the town, linking it with San Cristóbal de las Casas to the northwest and the Guatemalan border to the southeast.
The full name is Comitán de Domínguez, after Belisario Domínguez, a senator born here who was killed in 1913 after speaking out against the Huerta regime. Travellers know the town as the base for the Lagunas de Montebello, a group of coloured lakes set in pine forest near the border.
A Comitán map poster shows a well-proportioned town rather than a sprawling city. The square-block centre, the highway cutting past and the newer districts spreading outward make a balanced composition. It works well for anyone who knows the town's churches, plazas and steep side streets.

Pan-American Highway
The highway runs past the town on its way to the Guatemalan border, a long line that ties Comitán into the wider route through Central America.
Hill-shaped edges
Away from the centre, streets follow the contours of the plateau, so the grid softens into curves and irregular blocks on the outskirts.

Tanba sa Comitán
Mapa ida ho signifikadu
Comitán is a town people tend to remember in detail: the plaza, the cool highland air, the trips out to the lakes. A map poster brings its street plan into a room as a calm, graphic piece.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a family name or the year of a visit, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
