Gorakhpur Map Poster & Print
Gorakhpur lies in eastern Uttar Pradesh on the plains below the Himalayan foothills, not far from the Nepal border. The Rapti River curves along its western side, and Ramgarh Tal, a broad lake, spreads over a large area to the south-east of the centre. Between them, the old city forms a dense, irregular web of lanes, with newer districts extending along the main roads.
The city takes its name from Gorakhnath, the medieval yogi, and the Gorakhnath temple is its best-known landmark. Gorakhpur is also home to Gita Press, a long-established publisher of Hindu religious texts. Its railway station is known for one of the longest platforms in the world.
A Gorakhpur map poster balances river and lake on either side of a close-packed centre. The Rapti's curves, the wide oval of Ramgarh Tal and the long straight lines of the railway yards give the city a clear structure. It is a detailed, grounded design for anyone with ties to eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Rapti River
The river winds along the western edge of the city, and its broad floodplain leaves an unbuilt margin between the streets and the water.
Railway yards
Gorakhpur Junction and its tracks cut through the city in long straight lines, reflecting its role as a major rail hub for the region.
