Goris Map Poster & Print
Goris sits in a valley in Syunik province, in the far south of Armenia. From above, the town is unusual for the region: its centre follows a regular grid of straight streets and rectangular blocks, laid out in the late nineteenth century. The grid contrasts sharply with the steep, folded hills that close in on every side.
Above the town are the cliffs of Old Goris, where erosion has shaped the volcanic rock into pillars and cones. For centuries people carved dwellings into the soft stone. A river runs through the valley floor, and the town's stone houses are a familiar image of Syunik.
A Goris map poster puts the neat geometry of the town plan against the irregular terrain around it. The straight streets end abruptly where the slopes begin, and the valley's roads twist upward toward the ridges. The result is a clear portrait of a planned town set in rugged land.

Old Goris rocks
Eroded volcanic cliffs above the town hold old cave dwellings. They are among the most recognisable landscapes in Syunik province.
Valley setting
The town fills a narrow valley floor. Mountain roads climb out of it in tight curves that stand out against the regular grid.
