Escarpment edge
The Serra da Ibiapaba rises steeply beside the town. The shift from flat streets to steep slope gives the map a strong natural edge.

Ipu Map Poster & Print
Ipu lies in western Ceará, at the base of the Serra da Ibiapaba, a long escarpment that rises sharply out of the sertão. The town's streets spread across the lower ground, and just above them the land climbs steeply to the plateau. On a map, this shows as a sudden change: dense town streets on one side and a strip of steep slope on the other.
The town is best known for the Bica do Ipu, a waterfall that runs down the escarpment close to the town. It appears in José de Alencar's 1865 novel Iracema, one of the founding works of Brazilian literature, as the place where the title character bathed. Because of that, the name Ipu is familiar to many Brazilians who have never visited.
An Ipu map poster shows a town fixed at the meeting point of two landscapes: the dry lowland and the higher, greener plateau. It is a quiet print with a literary association. It will appeal to people from Ceará and to readers who remember the novel from school.

Bica do Ipu
The waterfall runs down the escarpment near the town. It is the landmark tied to Alencar's Iracema and the place most visitors come to see.
Sertão town grid
The streets on the lower ground follow a fairly regular pattern, which contrasts with the irregular, wooded slope rising behind them.

Tanba sa Ipu
Mapa ida ho signifikadu
Ipu means a lot to people from the interior of Ceará, and it holds a place in Brazilian literature as well. A map of the town can hang as a piece of home or as a tribute to Alencar's story.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps adding a line from the novel as the subtitle. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper gives it the look of a printed page.
