Jiaogong Map Poster & Print
Jiaogong is in the mountainous south of Gansu Province in western China, part of the rugged country around Longnan. In terrain like this, towns follow the valleys. Jiaogong's streets run along the floor of a narrow valley, and steep slopes rise on either side.
From above, the settlement looks long and thin. Its main road follows the river, and side streets climb only a short distance before the land becomes too steep to build on. Farm terraces and small villages fill whatever flatter ground the hillsides offer, joined by roads that switch back and forth up the slopes.
A Jiaogong map poster shows how landscape shapes a town. There is no grid here, just a line of streets pressed into the valley, the river beside them, and the winding roads that reach into the mountains. The plan is modest, but the form is clear and distinctive.

River line
A river runs through the valley beside the main road, and the two together form the backbone of the settlement.
Switchback roads
Roads leaving the valley climb in tight bends up the mountainsides, adding intricate, zigzagging lines to the edges of the map.
