Odenthal is a municipality in the Bergisches Land, east of Cologne and just north of Bergisch Gladbach. On a map it has no single town centre. Instead, a chain of villages and hamlets is threaded along roads that follow the valley of the Dhünn and climb the hills around it. Its best-known landmark is the Altenberger Dom, the Gothic church of a former Cistercian abbey, which stands in a quiet stretch of the Dhünn valley.
