Valley town
The built-up area follows a narrow valley floor, making the town long and slender instead of compact and round.

Sanxi Map Poster & Print
Sanxi lies in the mountainous north-east of Chongqing, the Three Gorges region, where the Yangtze and its tributaries have cut deep valleys through limestone ranges. There is very little flat ground here, and the map reflects that. The town squeezes into a narrow valley, and its streets follow the watercourse instead of spreading across it.
Roads into and out of Sanxi climb the slopes in tight bends and switchbacks, so even a short distance on the map can mean a long drive. Small villages and terraced fields perch on shelves of land higher up, and streams run down steep side valleys toward the larger rivers.
A Sanxi map poster shows a settlement shaped almost entirely by the terrain. The dense streets of the valley town, the twisting roads above and the long lines of the waterways combine into a composition with real drama, even when printed in the simplest black and white.

Switchback roads
Roads climb the surrounding mountains in sharp turns, drawing intricate zigzag patterns into the map around the town.
Mountain streams
Streams descend through steep side valleys and give the composition flowing lines that link the town to the wider river system.

Mapa ida ho signifikadu
People from the Three Gorges region often talk about the mountains and rivers that shaped their lives. A map of Sanxi puts that landscape on the wall, whether for a family still living there or for those who moved to the city.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a family name or a meaningful year. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
