Vinces Map Poster & Print
Vinces lies in Los Ríos province on Ecuador's flat, fertile coastal plain. The town grew along the Vinces River, and from above its streets form a regular grid that runs parallel to the riverbank. The river curves past the centre, and beyond the town the land is given over to plantations and fields, crossed by smaller waterways.
In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Vinces grew wealthy on cacao exports. Many prosperous families had close ties with France, which earned the town the nickname Paris chiquito, little Paris. A small replica of the Eiffel Tower stands in the town as a reminder of that era. Cacao is still part of the local economy today.
A Vinces map poster centres on the relationship between river and grid. The curve of the water gives the composition a natural flow, while the regular streets alongside it provide structure. It is a balanced, legible design that tells the story of a river town.

Riverside grid
The centre is laid out in a regular grid along the bank. That gives the town a clear, orderly shape when seen from above.
Plantation land
Farmland and cacao plantations surround the town. They appear as open ground with smaller watercourses and rural roads crossing through.
