Lagoon and barrier reef
A continuous reef circles Wallis at a distance, broken by a few passes and dotted with small islets, so the island seems to float inside its own calm frame of water.

Wallis Map Poster & Print
Wallis, known locally as Uvea, is the most populous island of the French collectivity of Wallis and Futuna, far out in the South Pacific. From above it is a compact, gently rounded island of volcanic origin set inside a broad lagoon. A thin ring of reef and low wooded islets runs along the lagoon's edge and draws a second, looser outline around the main shore.
The road network is modest. A coastal road loops most of the way around the island, and a few cross-island tracks climb through the interior, where old volcanic craters have filled with water. The best known of these, Lake Lalolalo, is an almost perfectly circular crater lake with steep walls. On a map it shows as a clean circle in the island's southwestern part.
Mata-Utu, the capital, sits on the east coast facing the lagoon, with its stone cathedral close to the water. A Wallis map poster works best with the whole reef and its islets in the frame. That way the relationship between land, lagoon and open ocean stays legible, and that relationship is really the whole story of the place.

Crater lakes
Several volcanic craters in the interior hold lakes. Lalolalo, the most striking, is nearly round and sharply defined, and it is one of the clearest natural shapes on the island's map.
Mata-Utu shore
The small capital lines the eastern shore, where the coastal road passes the cathedral and the island's densest cluster of streets gathers along the lagoon.

Mapa ida ho signifikadu
Few people pass through Wallis by chance, so a map of it usually belongs to someone with a real connection: family on the island, a posting there, a long voyage across the Pacific. They recognise the outline of reef and lagoon at once. To everyone else it reads as a quiet, almost abstract shape.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a family name or the year you arrived, and choose one of five styles. Blueprint suits the lagoon especially well. You can download the HD files for $9 in six print sizes or order a matte print, framed if you like.
