Walled old town
The medieval core keeps its rounded outline, and surviving pieces of the fortifications and a town gate still mark where the town once ended.

Wieluń Map Poster & Print
Wieluń sits in the southwest corner of Łódź Voivodeship, on flat farmland between the Warta basin and the Silesian border. From above, the town has a clear centre: a tight oval old town, still partly outlined by its medieval walls, with a market square in the middle. Newer housing estates and industrial blocks spread outward from there in looser, more open patterns.
The town has a sombre place in European history. In the early hours of 1 September 1939, Wieluń was bombed by the Luftwaffe, and it is often named as one of the first towns struck in the Second World War. Much of the centre was destroyed. What you see on the map today is a mix of rebuilt old-town streets and postwar planning.
A Wieluń map poster shows the contrast well. The dense old core, the ring where the walls used to run, and the roads running out to nearby villages all come through clearly in black and white. The town is small enough that the whole urban area fits on the sheet with room left for the surrounding fields.

Market square grid
Short streets lead off the central square in a near-regular pattern, a layout typical of towns chartered in medieval Poland.
Roads to the fields
Beyond the built-up edge, straight country roads and field boundaries run out across open plain, giving the map a quiet, spacious border.

For people from Wieluń, the map is a way to keep home close: the square, the old walls, the streets walked every day. For others it is a reminder of a town whose name carries weight in the history of 1939, drawn simply and without decoration.
