Valley layout
The town is stretched along a valley, with the main road and densest streets running lengthwise and giving the map an elongated, directional shape.

Xigaoshan Map Poster & Print
Xigaoshan lies in the south of Gansu province, in rugged mountain country where the land rises and falls steeply and settlements follow the valley floors. Towns here are typically long and narrow, shaped by rivers and the slopes that rise sharply on either side.
From above, Xigaoshan's streets concentrate where the ground is level enough to build, with a main road following the valley and shorter lanes climbing a little way up the hillsides. Beyond the town, terraced fields and mountain roads cut across the slopes in winding lines.
A Xigaoshan map poster captures a town made by its terrain. The contrast between the close streets of the valley and the empty, rugged land around them gives the design a natural drama, even in a simple black and white rendering.

Mountain slopes
Steep ground rises on both sides of the town, which keeps the built area tight and leaves broad open space on the poster around it.
Winding mountain roads
Roads leaving town follow the contours of the hills, drawing looping and zigzag lines that stand out clearly against the empty terrain.
