Zentsujichó Map Poster & Print
Zentsuji lies on the Sanuki plain in western Kagawa Prefecture, on the island of Shikoku. It is known as the birthplace of Kūkai, the monk also called Kōbō Daishi, who founded Shingon Buddhism in the ninth century. The temple of Zentsuji, one of the three most important sites associated with him, is the town's centre and one of the stops on the Shikoku pilgrimage of eighty-eight temples.
On the map the temple precinct stands out as a large, orderly compound inside a looser pattern of town streets. Around it, the Sanuki plain is scattered with irrigation ponds, a feature of Kagawa, where rainfall is scarce and farmers have stored water for centuries. Small, steep hills rise abruptly from the flat land at the town's edges.
A Zentsujichó map poster reflects that mix of sacred and practical geography: a great temple, a modest town and a countryside dotted with still ponds. The ponds appear as scattered solid shapes across the frame, which gives the image an unusual rhythm.

Irrigation ponds
Reservoirs of every size dot the plain around the town, a sign of Kagawa's long history of water management, and they appear on the poster as scattered forms.
Isolated hills
Low, steep hills rise from the plain near the town, leaving blank, rounded areas on the map where the streets and fields stop.

Zentsuji means a lot to pilgrims who have walked the Shikoku circuit and to anyone raised in western Kagawa. A custom title, the date of a pilgrimage or a short phrase as the subtitle makes the map a quiet keepsake.
The Paper and Sand styles have the feel of an old temple map, while Classic black and white, Noir and Blueprint suit modern interiors. Start with the free watermarked preview and download the $9 files in six print sizes when ready.
