Štrbské Pleso is a mountain settlement in the High Tatras of Slovakia, named after the glacial lake it surrounds. On a map the lake forms the centre, a rounded shape of water with a path running around its shore. Hotels and buildings line one side, forest surrounds the rest, and above it the High Tatras rise steeply to the north.
The resort has a long history as a spa and winter sports destination. It has large historic hotels on the lakeshore, and its ski jumps hosted the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970. A mountain railway connects it with the lower valley, and the Tatra Electric Railway links it along the foot of the mountains to other Tatra resorts.
A Štrbské Pleso map poster shows the lake in the middle, the shoreline path around it and a few streets and railway lines nearby. It is a small, focused map, with the mountains rising at its edges.
