Akita Map Poster & Print
Akita lies on the coastal plain of northern Honshu, where the Omono River reaches the Sea of Japan. On the map, the river and its canals curve through the city, the harbour sits in the north-west, and the centre is gathered around Senshū Park, the green hill where Kubota Castle once stood. Hills and farmland surround the built-up area inland.
The city was the seat of the Satake clan during the Edo period, and the old castle grounds still shape the centre. Each August, the Kantō festival fills the main streets with performers balancing tall bamboo poles hung with lanterns. The rest of the year, the city is known for long, snowy winters and the rice-growing region around it.
An Akita map poster places the castle park at the centre, with the river curving around the city and the coastline adding a strong edge on one side. The city's modest scale keeps the composition clear. In black and white, the green hill of Senshū Park looks like a calm, open shape among the streets.
