Arakkonam Map Poster & Print
Arakkonam lies in northern Tamil Nadu, west of Chennai, on flat land dotted with irrigation tanks. From above, the railway defines the town. Several lines meet at the junction, and their long straight tracks and wide yards cut across a street network that is otherwise dense and irregular. Residential lanes fill the spaces between the tracks, and main roads cross the rails where they can.
Arakkonam is best known as one of the important railway junctions in the south. Lines towards Chennai, the west and the south branch here, and the town has long been shaped by rail work and commuter traffic. The Indian Navy's air station INS Rajali is also nearby, and its long runway shows up on a wider map as a sharp, clean rectangle.
An Arakkonam map poster brings out the contrast between engineered lines and organic growth. The tracks look like drawn rulings next to the fine texture of lanes, and scattered tanks appear as soft pale shapes. In black and white the town reads as a working junction, a place many people pass through and some make their home.

Irrigation tanks
Shallow water tanks typical of the Tamil Nadu plains appear around the town as rounded pale shapes. They soften the edges of the dense street pattern.
The naval air station
INS Rajali lies close to town. On a wider framing its runway is a long, precise rectangle that contrasts with the irregular lanes nearby.
