Baizi Map Poster & Print
Baizi lies in the western part of Chongqing Municipality, where the Sichuan Basin rises and falls in low, closely spaced hills. The landscape shapes the town. Streets gather on the flatter ground in valley bottoms and along gentle ridges, and the surrounding slopes are divided into small fields and terraces.
Like many settlements in this part of China, Baizi is a local centre for the surrounding countryside. Its role is to provide markets, schools and services to the farming villages in the hills. The roads that connect it to nearby towns wind around the slopes instead of running straight, following the contours of the land.
The Baizi map poster is an intimate portrait of a place shaped by terrain. There's a modest, compact core, roads curve away through the hills, and wide spaces between the lines suggest the fields and slopes. It's a quiet, understated print that feels very different from a map of a large city.

Winding hill roads
Roads leave the town in curves as they follow the terrain. They create flowing lines across the paper instead of a rigid grid.
Farmed slopes
Around the town, the hills are divided into small fields and scattered hamlets. This leaves open, lightly marked areas that frame the settlement.
