Baoji Map Poster & Print
Baoji lies at the western end of the Guanzhong plain in Shaanxi, where the Wei River valley narrows between loess tablelands to the north and the Qinling mountains to the south. The city follows the river for a long distance. On a map it forms an extended, ribbon-like shape of districts and bridges, confined by the terrain on both sides.
The area was an early heartland of the Zhou dynasty, and many ancient bronzes have been found here. The Baoji Bronze Ware Museum holds one of the most important collections in China. Famen Temple, known for its relic of the Buddha, lies within Baoji's territory to the east. The city is also an important railway junction.
A Baoji map poster emphasises this linear shape. The river runs through the centre, streets line both banks, and the mountain slopes leave the southern edge open. The long, horizontal form is unusual among city maps. It suits a wide frame and shows how the geography of the valley decides where a city can grow.

Qinling slopes
Steep mountains rise just south of the urban area. They end the streets abruptly and fill the lower edge of the composition with open space.
Valley corridor
Railways and highways run parallel to the river through the narrow valley. They add long, straight lines to the elongated city shape.
