Bellampalli is a town in Mancherial district in northern Telangana, built largely around coal mining. The Singareni Collieries Company has operated mines in the area for decades, and the town grew as a set of workers' colonies, markets and service areas around the pits. From above, that history shows in a pattern of separate clusters connected by roads rather than a single continuous centre.
The land around the town is hilly and partly forested, part of the wider Godavari coal belt. Open-cast mines and spoil heaps appear on the map as large irregular spaces without streets, while railway lines and sidings cut across the area.
