Bhoom sits on the upland plateau of Maharashtra's Marathwada region, where the land is broad, fairly level and marked by seasonal watercourses instead of large rivers. On a map the town is a tight cluster. Its lanes are dense at the core and loosen quickly at the edges, where the grid gives way to farm tracks.
Towns like Bhoom grew as local centres for the villages around them. Roads come in from several directions and meet near the older part of town, which gives the plan a loose star shape.
