Bishkek Map Poster & Print
Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, is one of the most regular city plans in Central Asia. On a map, its centre is a clear grid of long, straight streets, laid out on land that slopes gently up toward the Kyrgyz Ala-Too mountains to the south. Wide avenues run east to west, crossed by streets heading toward the foothills.
Known as Frunze for most of the Soviet period, the city took its present name in 1991. Chuy Avenue runs through the centre, passing Ala-Too Square, and the city is known for its many parks and tree-lined streets. The Ala Archa gorge, a popular national park, lies just to the south.
A Bishkek map poster shows how regular the city's structure is, with long parallel lines, rectangular blocks and green spaces set into the grid. At the edges, the pattern loosens into suburbs and then gives way to the rising ground toward the mountains, a boundary that frames the whole composition.
