Bombo lies in Luwero District in central Uganda, north of Kampala on the main highway toward Gulu. That road is the town's backbone on the map. It runs straight through the center, with markets, shops and housing pressed along it and earth roads spreading out into farmland on either side.
The town is closely tied to the Ugandan army. Bombo has long been home to major military barracks and has served as an army headquarters, so a large institutional area with its own internal roads sits beside the civilian town. Bombo also has a long-established Nubian community whose roots go back to soldiers settled here in the colonial era.
The land around the town is gently rolling, with swampy valleys, banana and coffee plots, and homesteads linked by footpaths. A Bombo map poster shows the contrast between the ordered layout of the barracks, the linear commercial strip along the highway and the looser pattern of rural roads beyond.

The military area has its own regular network of roads and blocks. It stands apart visually from the more organic streets of the civilian town next to it.
Valley and farmland
Beyond the built-up area, low ridges and wet valleys shape where roads and footpaths can go. The result is a looser, branching pattern at the edges of the poster.
