From above, Boromo reads as a line before it reads as a town. The main road between Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso runs straight through it, and the settlement gathers on either side in a loose grid of lanes, compounds and courtyards. Beyond the last blocks the pattern breaks up into tracks and cultivated plots, and the map turns quiet very quickly.
The town sits in the Boucle du Mouhoun region, named for the great bend of the Mouhoun, the river also known as the Black Volta. Its valley lies close by, and the drainage lines that feed it cross the surrounding savanna as thin, wandering strokes.
