Burjassot sits immediately north of Valencia, so close that its streets run directly into the city's own. On a map it shows as a tightly packed urban fabric of narrow blocks, among the most densely built municipalities in the area, with the old centre on slightly higher ground. There is very little empty space, which makes the few open areas stand out clearly.
At its heart are the Silos de Burjassot, a set of underground granaries from the sixteenth century beneath a large open esplanade, used for centuries to store wheat for Valencia. The town also hosts part of the University of Valencia's Burjassot-Paterna campus, whose faculty buildings and grounds form a distinct zone on the side facing Paterna.
