Carlet lies in the Ribera Alta, the fertile inland district south of Valencia where citrus orchards cover almost every flat stretch of land. The town has a compact historic core with narrow, irregular streets that open onto squares. Wider avenues and newer blocks were added around it over time, and the orchards begin just beyond them.
Agriculture has shaped Carlet for centuries. The surrounding land is divided into small rectangular plots lined by irrigation channels, a pattern inherited from the old Valencian irrigation systems. Low hills rise to the west, where the plain gives way to rougher ground. Remains of the town's medieval castle and its parish church mark the historic centre.
