Cláudio is a small city in the centre-west of Minas Gerais, in the hilly country typical of the Brazilian interior. From above, the urban area forms an irregular patch. Streets bend to follow the ground, so the plan has no strict grid. The edges thin out into rural roads and farmland, and a few main routes lead out toward neighbouring towns in the region.
The town is known locally as an industrial centre, with metalworking playing an important part in its economy.
