Congleton Map Poster & Print
Congleton lies in east Cheshire, where the Cheshire plain begins to rise toward the Peak District. On a map, the town centre sits around a bend in the River Dane, a compact grid of older streets surrounded by later housing that spreads up the valley sides, with parks and open land following the river corridor.
East of the centre, the Macclesfield Canal traces a smooth contour-hugging line, and the railway runs along the high ground nearby. A Congleton map poster brings together these layers, river, canal and rail, each drawn at a different curve, giving the print a surprising amount of structure for a town of its size.
Congleton has long been nicknamed Bear Town, a name linked to a local tale about the town selling its Bible to pay for a new bear for bear-baiting. It also developed as a centre of silk and ribbon manufacturing, and several old mill buildings remain along the river.

Macclesfield Canal
The canal follows a gentle, level course along the eastern edge of town, a smooth line that contrasts with the more irregular roads around it.
Valley-side housing
Residential areas climb the slopes on either side of the river in curving crescents and cul-de-sacs, softening the outer edges of the composition.
