Curup is the main town of Rejang Lebong Regency in Bengkulu Province, on the island of Sumatra. It lies inland in the Barisan Mountains, the volcanic range that runs along the western side of the island, and its elevation gives it a cooler climate than the coast. The land around it is used for vegetables, coffee and other highland crops.
On a map, Curup appears as a moderate cluster of streets along the main road that crosses the uplands between Bengkulu on the coast and the interior of Sumatra.
