Cypress Mountain Ski Area Map Poster & Print
Cypress Mountain Ski Area sits within Cypress Provincial Park in the North Shore Mountains, above West Vancouver in British Columbia. On a map, the curving suburban streets along the shore give way to Cypress Bowl Road, which climbs in wide switchbacks to the base area. Ski runs cover two peaks, Mount Strachan and Black Mountain, on either side of the bowl.
It is the largest of Vancouver's local ski areas, and its runs look out over the city, the Strait of Georgia and Howe Sound. During the 2010 Winter Olympics, Cypress hosted the freestyle skiing and snowboarding events. It also has a cross-country and snowshoe area at Hollyburn, with trails winding through old forest.
A Cypress Mountain Ski Area map poster works well at a wider scale, which brings in Burrard Inlet, the approaches to the Lions Gate Bridge and West Vancouver's shoreline. The contrast between the coastal streets and the mountain road is the heart of the composition. It is a reminder that this ski area is effectively part of the city.

Mount Strachan and Black Mountain rise on either side of the ski area. Their lift lines and runs frame the bowl between them.
Shoreline below
West Vancouver's streets follow the curve of the coast where Burrard Inlet meets Howe Sound, adding fine detail and a strong water edge to wider compositions.
