Delta covers much of the low, flat land at the mouth of the Fraser River, south of Vancouver. From above, it is less a single town than three communities: North Delta on the ridge, Ladner by the river and Tsawwassen near the US border. Wide farmland and the empty expanse of Burns Bog sit between them.
The Fraser shapes the city's northern edge. The George Massey Tunnel carries Highway 99 underneath it. Along the southern coast, long causeways run out into the Strait of Georgia to the Tsawwassen ferry terminal and the Roberts Bank port, drawing straight lines across the tidal flats.
A Delta map poster shows an unusually varied landscape. There are dense suburban streets in one corner and a regular grid of fields across the middle. Tidal sloughs wind around Ladner, and in the middle of it all lies Burns Bog, one of the largest undeveloped raised peat bogs on the continent.

Long, straight causeways lead from the shore to the ferry terminal and the port. They are striking geometric lines drawn across the water and tidal flats.
Ladner sloughs
Around Ladner, river channels and sloughs curve through the delta. They create a looser, watery pattern at the edge of the Fraser.
