Dahmani sits on the high plateau of the Kef Governorate, in the interior of northwest Tunisia. From above, the town reads as a tight, compact cluster of streets surrounded by wide agricultural land, where field boundaries and country roads replace the dense grain of the centre. The contrast between the built core and the open land around it is what gives the place its character on paper.
The region has been settled for a very long time. The remains of Althiburos, an ancient Numidian and later Roman town, lie a short distance from Dahmani, and the surrounding countryside has long been known for cereal farming.
