Dareda lies in the Babati district of Manyara Region in northern Tanzania, on the road that runs west from Babati toward Katesh and Mount Hanang. The surrounding country is a mix of farmland, scattered homesteads and hills. On a map the town is a loose cluster of streets gathered around the main road rather than a dense, planned centre.
Mount Hanang, one of Tanzania's highest peaks, rises to the southwest and dominates the wider landscape. Dareda is known locally for its mission hospital, which serves a large rural area. The town is also a market and service centre for the surrounding villages, where maize, beans and other crops grow on the slopes and plains.
