Dhirkot lies in the Bagh district of Azad Kashmir, in hilly, forested terrain west of the Jhelum valley. From above, the setting is defined by ridges and slopes rather than a grid: roads follow the contours of the land, looping around hillsides and descending into valleys, while settlements cluster along the more accessible ridgelines and gentler slopes.
The area is known for its green, pine-covered hills and cooler climate, which draw visitors from the plains in summer. Like much of the region, Dhirkot's life is shaped by altitude and weather, with scattered villages and terraced fields spread across the surrounding hills rather than concentrated in a single dense town centre.
