El Viso del Alcor stands on Los Alcores, a low plateau east of Seville whose steep edge overlooks the flat farmland of the vega. The town follows that edge, so on a map it looks long and narrow. It stretches along a main road with parallel streets on either side and short cross lanes between them, instead of gathering around a single round core.
It is one of a chain of Alcor towns, with Mairena del Alcor on one side and Carmona on the other, and all of them were settled for the same reasons: high ground, good views and fertile land below. Around El Viso the map quickly turns into olive groves, orchards and field boundaries. That web of fine lines contrasts with the dense streets of the town.
Inside the town the streets are typical of western Andalusia, with whitewashed houses built close to the road and small squares where lanes meet.
