Gayéri is the capital of Komondjari province in the Est region of Burkina Faso. It lies on the broad plains of the east, where the landscape opens toward the Sahel in the north. From above, the town is a compact centre of streets and administrative buildings, with residential compounds around it and wide, open land beyond.
As a provincial capital, Gayéri is a meeting point for the surrounding rural communities, with offices, markets and schools serving a large and thinly settled area. Roads and tracks leave the town toward villages across the province, and much of the map is taken up by the unbuilt ground between them.
