Ghazaouet lies on the Mediterranean coast in Tlemcen province, close to the border with Morocco. The town fills a narrow bay where a valley reaches the sea, and from above it looks compressed: streets packed onto the low ground by the water, with steep slopes rising behind and cliffs running along the coast in both directions.
It is a working port, and the harbour is the most prominent shape on the map, with long breakwaters reaching out to enclose the basin. Under French rule the town was known as Nemours, and the older part retains a fairly regular street layout near the waterfront, which becomes more irregular as it climbs the hillsides.

Bay and valley
The town occupies the low ground where a valley opens onto a small bay, so the streets gather at the shore and narrow as they head inland.
Coastal cliffs
On either side of the bay the shore turns rocky and steep, and the map shows the coastline as a clean, unbroken edge with very little building.
