Guercif lies in eastern Morocco, in the broad, dry basin between the Rif mountains to the north and the Middle Atlas to the south. The Moulouya, one of the country's longest rivers, flows nearby, and its tributaries shape the irrigated land around the town.
From above, Guercif is a regular grid of streets with a few main avenues crossing it. It sits beside the railway and the road that link Fes with Oujda and the east. Olive groves and farmland form a textured band around the edges, and open, arid country lies beyond.
