Vedavathi river
The river curves along the edge of town, its broad sandy bed visible as a soft band. It is the oldest reason for the settlement's location.

Hiriyūr Map Poster & Print
Hiriyūr is a town in Chitradurga district, on the Deccan plateau in central Karnataka. The Vedavathi river passes beside it. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets near the riverbank, with the national highway between Bengaluru and the north running past as a long, straight line.
The older part of town has a tight, irregular layout of lanes and market streets. Newer roads spread out along the highway and the approaches to it. Around the edges, the plateau opens into farmland, coconut groves and scattered rocky outcrops. Upstream on the Vedavathi is the Vani Vilas Sagar reservoir, one of the oldest dams in the state.
A Hiriyūr map poster shows a town shaped by two lines, the river and the road. One follows the natural contour of the land. The other cuts straight across it. Together they give the composition a clear structure, with the dense old centre at the point where they come closest.

Highway corridor
The national highway runs through the area as a firm straight line. Newer development has grown in strips along both sides of it.
Old market streets
The historic core is a dense knot of narrow, irregular lanes. On the map it contrasts with the wider, straighter roads added later.
