The Ill River
The Ill crosses the commune and gives the town its name. Its green banks form a soft, winding strip through the tighter pattern of streets.

Illzach Map Poster & Print
Illzach borders Mulhouse to the north, in the southern part of Alsace. The town is part of Mulhouse's continuous urban area, but its map has its own character. There is an older village core, residential streets fanning out across the flat Rhine plain, and larger industrial and commercial areas toward the edges.
As the name suggests, the Ill River passes through the commune, bordered by strips of green. It gives the otherwise flat, gridded layout a natural curve. Illzach also includes the Modenheim quarter, a separate cluster of streets within the same commune.
An Illzach map poster shows the fine grain of an Alsatian town that has grown into its neighbouring city. Houses, gardens and street blocks meet the river corridor and the larger forms of the industrial zones, and the black-and-white style brings out the pattern clearly.

Old village core
At the centre, older streets meet at irregular angles around the historic heart of the town. They are clearly different from the more regular neighbourhoods built later.
Edge of Mulhouse
To the south, Illzach's streets merge into Mulhouse with no visible boundary. The poster shows how closely the town is tied to the larger city.
