Irvine Map Poster & Print
Irvine was developed on the land of the former Irvine Ranch, following a master plan drawn up in the 1960s under architect William Pereira. The city is organised into villages, each with its own residential streets, schools and shopping centres, separated by wide arterial roads. On an Irvine map poster the pattern is unmistakable: large cells of arterials filled with looping streets and cul-de-sacs.
The University of California, Irvine, lies in the southern part of the city, planned around Aldrich Park, a circular green space ringed by the main academic buildings. From above it reads like a wheel, one of the most striking campus layouts in the country, with residential areas and research parks arranged around it.
The San Joaquin Hills rise to the south, much of their open land protected, while the former El Toro air base to the north has been partly turned into the Orange County Great Park. Interstates 5 and 405 cross the city at an angle, adding strong lines to a map otherwise shaped by careful planning.

The campus is arranged in a circle around Aldrich Park, a perfect round shape that stands out clearly among the surrounding streets.
Hills and Great Park
Open hillsides to the south and the large Great Park site to the north leave broad empty areas that frame the planned neighbourhoods.
